Hunton Immigration and Nationality Law Blog Has Just Posted the Following:
On July 1, 2010, the Vital Statistics Office of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico began issuing new, more secure Puerto Rican birth certificates to US Citizens born in Puerto Rico. As of October 1, 2010, all certified copies of Puerto Rican birth certificates issued prior to July 1, 2010, will no longer be valid. Accordingly, the Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) issued a press release providing guidance to US employers with regard to the I-9 process. For new employees, employers may continue to accept all Puerto Rican birth certificates through September 30, 2010; after that date, only the new Puerto Rican birth certificates (issued on or after July 1, 2010) we be acceptable for I-9 purposes. Therefore, as of October 1, 2010, employers must pay close attention to the issuance date of Puerto Rican birth certificates presented for I-9 purposes.
For existing employees, there is no need to re-verify the employment authorization of employees who previously presented pre-July 1, 2010, Puerto Rican birth certificates. Federal Contractors subject to the Federal Acquisition Regulation E-Verify clause may continue to accept all Puerto Rican birth certificates prior to October 1, 2010, but beginning on that date, only the new Puerto Rican birth certificates issued on or after July 1, 2010, will be acceptable. Federal Contractors may not ask for the newer version during I-9 reverification of those individuals who previously presented the older version of the Puerto Rican birth certificates.

My friend lost her green card while she was on vacation in China. She got a temporary green card to travel in a week or so which facilitated her entry into US and once she reached here, she just applied for another green card claiming the initial one as lost. There were no issues except the travel delay and the monetary loss.

I filed my 485 application at TSC at the beginning of August, still did not get any receipt number, neither are the checks cashed.
Any idea how long USCIS/TSC is taking these days to issue a receipt or cash the checks?

I just got back to the post to update it. Even I found through another source that https://www.usvisa-mexico.com/ is the new website for booking visa appointments at mexico consulates!
What makes me wonder though is the fact that tijuana us consulate website and nvars website still point to the old website!?

Today i called USCIS and opened my mouth to ask the IO (a nice sounding lady) about my I-485 status. Before i could say anything, she said if my application was received after April,2007, then she cannot tell anything as they are not processing cases filed after yet. She specifically said she cannot tell anything about Namecheck.
I politely thanked her and hung up. I think they stopped telling after everybody and his/her second cousin started calling. Is there any other way?.

Not sure what to say. But I believe in your original H1 petition requested dates of employment were only for one and a half month and I think you will get only that. Unless attorney files an amendment and documentation for additional 3 years. I dont think USCIS will even look at I-140 approval since it was not eve part of the packet

On June 22, 2007, we mailed you a notice that we have approved this I129 PETITION FOR A NONIMMIGRANT WORKER. Please follow any instructions on the notice. If you move before you receive the notice, call customer service.
I have received mail from uscis for my H1B visa status.
What to do know.?
Will I receive mail in INDIA or my company who has filled H1B Visa will receive it ?
Today is 03 July 2007 still i have not received any courier from USCIS people.
Please help me what to do next.????

I think those bills will only be related to toughening border security n patrol..
Most likely...
But if we have a coordinated campaign to target the senators with letters/web faxes...who know we might be able to get some interim relief as part of the border security bills.
We should atleast try to recapture the visa's lost since 2000.
I for one am sending letters to both my senators. I read in one of the posts that sending letters via snail mail is ideal, along with basic info about your I140.
There is an excellent template of such letter in one of the media campaign thread.

With just 14 days left, it is getting more and more clear tht Obama is going to be the president of the US for atleat next 4 yrs, unless some miracle change the race in coming days. And Projected Senate looks like, democrats will have 60 or almost there which is required to bypass a filibuster and Dems would be incresing their lead in House.
